The role of U.N. mechanisms and bodies in promoting the implementation of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is detailed. Dr. Rodríguez-Piñero begins with an historical overview, then discusses the different U.N human rights mechanisms and how to coordinate them in implementing the Declaration.

About Luís Rodríguez-Piñero

Dr. Rodríguez-Piñero holds a PhD from the European University Institute, in Florence. He has published an international monograph on indigenous peoples’ rights, Indigenous Peoples, Post colonialism and International Law (OUP, 2005), as well as numerous specialized articles in the field. He has extensive experience in international and domestic cases regarding indigenous rights in Latin America and other parts of the world. He has worked for the International Labour Organisation and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as for Governments and numerous indigenous organizations and NGOs.
